The Roby Elementary School Library seeks to make resources available to all
students in an equitable fashion. The library has policies in place that help
to ensure that the collection is managed in a way that
benefits the
patrons of the library.
1) Kindergarten students are able to check
out one book at a time. Young students need to learn the concept that the
library is a place where books belong to everyone at the school. They grow to
understand that they are borrowing and taking care of the book while it is in
their possession and upon its return, get to pick out another great
book.
2) Students in grades 1 through 5 are able to check out two books at a time. A student with one overdue will be able to check out another title. However, if a student has two overdue items, they will not be able to check out until a book(s) is returned. Students learn that they have an individual responsibility to return items in a timely manner so that other students get a chance to enjoy them. Overdue notices may be delivered to students who have books that are out for an extended time.
3) Students may renew books that they haven’t been able to finish during the week-long check-out period. However, if another student has put a “HOLD” on the title, the student will be limited in the number of times they can renew a title.
4) Students are allowed to put a “hold” on titles that they may wish to read. Hold titles are checked out to students in the order in which holds were placed.
5) Students that return books that are damaged beyond what is considered to be normal wear and tear may incur a fee that allows the library to replace the title into circulation. A damage notice will be sent home should this occur.
